A large number of systems and consoles use EmuElec as a base for Retro gaming emulation. Here you’ll find some nuances along with how to fix, correct and tweak settings be it a Super Console X, Android TV box or other console running different versions of EmuElec and or Android.
EmuElec 3.4
Exit Game
This may vary based on emulator however you generally have two options;
- Press down on both Joypads…
- If your console has the hotkey configured, press >Start and >Select buttons at the same time…
Now, scroll up or down, hover over >Close content and press the A button.
Safe System Shutdown
Press your B button for Back until you get to the menu that lists the consoles be it Atari, Naomi etc. Press >Start and >Select buttons at the same time. This will bring up the system menu. Size will depend on mode be it Kids, Kiosk or full menu. Hover over > Shutdown System and Press A, then on >Really Shutdown press A. Let it do its thing as will show saving for varied amount of time before closing and going to a black screen. Its now safe to unplug your unit.
Please always use the safe system shutdown approach as it allows the software to close, save and exit properly. Not doing this can result in corrupted micro sd card and related issues.
EmuElec on Android based boxes and sticks
Screen stretching or picture zoom
A fair few emulation boxes are based on Android TV hardware. This can range from a HDMI stick through to a Super Console X box. These units have an Android base operating system and if you remove your Retro Gaming MicroSD card will find it will likely boot up into a version of Android.
The trick here is that Android is capable of running much higher resolution than retro gaming. So if you find your retro gaming console has suddenly started do display a small part of the screen as if its been magnified and stretched across the screen, the Android resolution may be the issue.
This may slightly vary based on your hardware and Android version, however for some HDMI gaming sticks running Android 11 here is how to give this a try…
- Remove the Micro SD card and power up the unit
- Once Android has loaded, can take its time depending on hardware
- Hover and click on MY Apps
- Hover and click on Droid Settings
- Click on Display menu top right – this comes up in r/h column bar
- Click on Screen Resolution
- Click on Display Mode – will likely be 2160P 60hz
- Go down and click on 1080p-60hz
- Grey popup appears, click OK
- Click B until you’re back out of menu
- Power off or unplug the unit
- Re-insert the MicroSD card, connect to TV and power on
This should remove the screen magnification issue caused when moving between different screens. Keep in mind the screen resolution is set by the box and not emulation in this case.
