Introducing the Anbernic RG35XX H, the next generation 351P.
This compact retro handheld device offers a perfect blend of price and performance, packed with features that cater to both adults and children, ensuring endless entertainment for all.
The RG35XX H replaces the much older 351P with improved performance and additional features like Wifi and Bluetooth along with upping the 3.5″ IPS display from a 320×480 resolution to 640×480.
RG35XX H customer reviews
The RG35XX H has received fantastic reviews, with customers praising Anbernic for its impressive upgrades to the 35XX console series. It’s been hailed as close to perfect – compact, comfortable, and highly portable. Users particularly appreciate its excellent sound quality and impressive battery life. The RG35XX H performs admirably, running a vast selection of retro games well. Although the stock firmware can benefit from updates, there is the option of exploring alternative firmware like Batocera, the modified stock OS, or muOS to enhance the gaming experience further.
The ideal Kids Retro gaming handheld console
The RG35XX H is a compact well-built console slightly bigger and boasting a little more oomph than the 35XX and 351P, it maintains an easy-to-use interface and comes in cheaper than the older 351P it replaces, making it super affordable.
RG35XX H quality
For a console that sits around the mid $100 mark, the 35XX brings the quality finish and components you’re used to with Anbernic handhelds along with 2 micro sd slots, dual speakers, Wifi, Bluetooth, headphone jack and so on.
Enhanced gameplay
The 35XX H will easily play most of the arcade and 8 bit classics and is an impressive handheld console at an affordable price point. It surprisingly emulates Dreamcast, N64, and PSP to a decent level with occasional slowdowns depending on each game and how demanding a particular scene may be. However, if you’re on the fence and looking for a smoother gaming experience on these higher-end consoles, upgrading to a more powerful Anbernic handheld like the 353 series and beyond should be considered.
With the stock operating system, utilizing the OTG port allows for connecting an additional gamepad for Player 1 to Player 4, while the HDMI out, conveniently positioned at the top of the unit, enables TV display. Undoubtedly, this budget-friendly retro gaming console offers hours of enjoyment and handles a substantial selection of PS1 titles with ease.
Interface
The RG35XX H includes an in-house operating system that unlike its faster counterparts does not use EmulationStation or RetroArch but can be upgraded to use custom firmware. What does this mean? tweaking is currently at an absolute minimum and you won’t be able to make screen size or ratio changes, but if you want to be able to deep dive and tweaking then you have the Custom Firmware option available to you through community development that will take the experience to a new level.
Does the RG35XX H come with included games?
Yes, the stock 35XX H includes around 3,600 titles spanning the following consoles;

- Mega Drive – MD
- Neo Geo
- Neo Geo Pocket Color – NGPC
- PC Engine

Keep in mind more demanding titles will vary in performance.
Adding games to your RG35XX H
While you can read the Micro SD card the 35XX H ships with, adding ROMS to this card does not show them in the main menu. This is where the secondary slot comes in. You will need to format a second card to FAT32 and insert it into the TF2/EXT slot. Boot the device up and it should set up the required game folder structure on the card for you.
Shutdown the console by going into >Settings >Shut down.
Copy your ROMs into the required folders, insert the card back into TF2 and turn on. Once you have booted up with 2 Micro SD cards, when you select games, it will ask you if you want to access the External Card or Built-in card. Please ensure you check the main card for what format each console’s games are in and replicate the same on card 2.
Custom firmware
The stock OS will be enough for many users and limit tweaking and changes that can stop things from working. However, while there are always pros and cons for any console and software combination, custom firmware brings a lot to the table in the way of interface and performance. The 35XX H firmware options currently available are Batocera, the modified stock OS and muOS which enhance the gaming experience by using more suited emulation cores and settings per console or game.
