If you grew up with a Nintendo DS, the RG DS will feel instantly familiar. It opens just like the original: a screen on top, a touch screen underneath, and a stylus in the box. Close the lid and it sleeps, ready for the next commute, lunch break or night on the couch.
And it plays far more than DS games. As a guide, it's capable of playing classics all the way up to PSP: Game Boy, SNES and Mega Drive, PS1, N64 and Dreamcast. A D-pad and two analogue sticks mean 2D platformers and 3D adventures both feel right.
About 6 hours of play per charge, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in, and it folds down to 160 × 91 × 21.5mm, so it travels easily.
