The Android-based RG505 with vibrant colour options and decent PS2 emulation in an affordable handheld.
The Anbernic RG505 takes a big leap forward offering up to Playstation 2 and GameCube emulation. Shown playing God of War II smoothly means PS2 titles should be very achievable.
Android-based with Google Play Store pre-installed opens up a world of opportunities.
The RG505 spec is almost identical to the Retroid Pocket 3 (RP3). The key difference is the Anbernic screen, premium controls and finish. The RG505 also comes ready to play straight out of the box – so no upgrading or installing anything. Simply turn on and play.
Instead of the stock no-name cards, our RG505 comes with a quality brand name Lexar 128GB games card.
This Anbernic retro gaming handheld is Android 12-based with a number of advancements including a Tiger T618 processor, Mali G52 GPU, and 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM. We also have hall magnetic joysticks which are far more accurate and an inbuilt 6-axis gyroscope meaning you can control certain games by tilting the console.
Standard stereo speakers, 2.4 & 5G WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro SD slot for adding games and a 5000mAh battery for up-to 8hrs play.
Android means you get a touchscreen and you can also expect a similar Android interface as found on previous dual boot Anbernics.
Features aside the plastic shell now comes in some new more vibrant pastel colours including Turquoise, Yellow, and Grey.
…And of course, image quality is also vibrant thanks to the 4.95″ OLED display.
What games can the RG505 emulate?
You can expect a good part of the PS2 library to be achievable, along with some GameCube titles. Dreamcast and Naomi will play much better while you can expect a large amount of Saturn titles and most consoles below this to play well overall.
N64 and PSP can both be upscaled meaning better picture quality and overall much better gameplay. We have tested a number of N64 titles at 720P and PSP at 2X upscaling.
