Light gun FAQs
Do light guns work on modern TVs?
Yes. Modern light guns are made for flat screens, so no CRT is needed. Camera-based guns like the Sinden track a thin white border around the game, while IR light guns use small sensors mounted around the TV.
What’s the best light gun for PC?
It depends on your setup. Camera-based guns like the Sinden work with almost anything that accepts mouse input on Windows and Linux, with no sensors to mount and no recalibration when you move. IR guns use sensors around the screen instead, so there’s no on-screen border. Both types work with MAME, RetroArch and Batocera.
Camera or IR light gun: what’s the difference?
A camera gun reads a white border around the game, so it needs no sensors and stays accurate when you move. An IR gun reads infrared sensors near the screen, so there’s no border, but it needs a quick recalibration if the screen size or your position changes.
What do I need to play light gun games at home?
There are three ways in: add a light gun to your PC; add a 2-player recoil kit to a Pandora’s Box XL or Dual Deck with the Alpha+ board; or get a complete shooter pedestal or arcade machine with light guns and games ready to go.
Which light gun games can I play?
Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, Point Blank, Operation Wolf, Terminator 2 and Duck Hunt, among 100+ light gun titles. See our top 20 light gun games of all time.
Do the light guns have recoil?
Yes. The light guns and kits we sell kick back with every shot, with the recoil running off its own power supply. Pedals are included or available for that ultimate arcade experience.
